Exhibition “Slovoto” Organised by the Institute for Bulgarian Language

The Exhibition “Slovoto” (The Word) is dedicated to 24th May – the National Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture. Traditionally, 24th May (Gregorian calendar) or 11th May (Orthodox church liturgical calendar) is the Day of the Saints Cyril and Methodius – creators of the Glagolitic alphabet, which was the first Bulgarian alphabet.

The Exhibition comprises ten panels displaying the words: life, freedom, peace, truth, love, good, light eyes, knowledge, wisdom, written in Cyrillic letters (modern Bulgarian alphabet) with embedded elements of Glagolitic inscriptions and images of Old Bulgarian manuscripts.

A part of the Exhibition is a 10-minute video telling about the Glagolitic alphabet – the first Bulgarian alphabet, created in 862 by St. Cyril, about the Cyrillic alphabet – the second Bulgarian alphabet, created at the end of the 9th century, about the spread of the Glagolitic and the Cyrillic alphabet through the centuries, about the Old Bulgarian Literature – created by Bulgarian writers in the period 9th-11th century.

The Exhibition is located in the lobby of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and will be on display from 18th to 28th May 2015. < / p>
