Abstract

The article presents a linguocultural review of Bulgaria’s recent socialist history. By means of drawing linguistic data from various sources (dictionaries, glossaries, lexical databases, the press, etc.), the author attempts at recreating the concept of ‘the future’ in its various realizations. In unison with the article’s title, the author makes the conclusion that each and every text could be viewed as a manipulation attempt aimed at the text’s recipient (listener, reader, audience), just as every communication is potentially manipulative by nature.

Keywords: linguistic manipulation, concept of ‘the future’, socialist period
