Scientific Session Dedicated to the 110th Anniversary of Acad. Vladimir Georgiev, and Award Ceremony of the 2017 Vladimir Georgiev Fund Awards
On 16th February 2018, from 10:00am until 3:00pm, in the Grand Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences there will be a Scientific Session dedicated to the 110th anniversary of acad. Vladimir Georgiev. The participants include researchers from the Institute for Bulgarian Language and Sofia University. The programme of the event is published here.
Part of the session will include the official award ceremony of the 2017 Vladimir Georgiev Fund Awards. The event is organised by the Institute for Bulgarian Language and the 13 Centuries Bulgaria Fund. The awards will be presented by acad. Yuliyan Revalski, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The Vladimir Georgiev Fund Awards is founded in accordance of the will of acad. Vladimir Georgiev – a renowned Bulgarian scientist, widely recognised abroad for his work in Idno-European linguistics. Since 2013 the award is annual and is awarded for an individual or collective works, published in the last three years and presenting significant and original contribution to linguistics.
After the renewal of the award, it was received by a number of distinguished linguists. In 2014 it has been awarded for the collective work “Dictionary of Standard Bulgarian Based on the Vernacular Language from the 17th Century (Based on the text of Tihonravov Damaskin)”. In 2015 it was awarded to corr. member Emilia Pernishka for her book “Personal Names in Svishtov Region”. In 2017 the award was received by prof. Penka Pehlivanova for her work “From motivated to arbitrary and back (motivation of the linguistic sign, or how words talk about things)”.
