Ethnolinguistics
The Department of Etholinguistics is the newest within the Institute. It was established in 2008 as a continuation of the already existing Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies, Department of Onomastics and Department of Theory and Practice of Translation. The research unit comprises several fields: ethnolinguistics in which the research is focused on significant cultural phenomena of the traditional culture of Bulgarians, their language expression and cultural semantics; culturological research of Bulgarian considering how, with what means and in what language form the cultural concepts and stereotypes of Bulgarians are reflected, as well as which forms and means of verbal communication are commonly used in the Bulgarian society in the past and today; description and study of Bulgarian toponymy; interlanguage asymmetry in translation from a foreign language into Bulgarian.
