The Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announces an admission competition for full-time PhD students for the academic year 2026-2027, in accordance with Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 499 of 3 July 2026 and the announcement published in State Gazette No. 73 of 14 August 2026.
Two PhD positions have been announced at the Institute for Bulgarian Language:
2.1. Philology. General and Comparative Linguistics: 1 full-time PhD position;
2.1. Philology. Bulgarian Language: 1 full-time PhD position.
Applicants must submit an application to the director of the educational institution within two months of the date of publication of the announcement in the State Gazette (14 August 2026).

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION:
1. Application addressed to the director of the respective BAS institute, indicating the scientific specialty (specialties) for which the applicant is applying, the foreign language in which they will take the second entrance examination, and the issue of the State Gazette in which the announcement was published /State Gazette No. 73 of 14 August 2026/.
2. Curriculum vitae;
3. Diploma for a completed Master’s degree, together with the diploma supplement, or a notarised copy thereof;
4. Certificate of recognition of higher education, if the diploma was issued by a foreign higher education institution;
5. Declaration pursuant to § 5 of the Additional Provisions of Council of Ministers Decree No. 90 of 26 May 2000;
6. Applicants may also submit other documents certifying their interests and achievements in the respective scientific field;
7. Payment order (or a copy thereof) confirming payment of the €20.45 application fee to the bank account of the BAS Training Centre:

If the payment is made from an account that is not in the name of the applicant, please also provide the applicant’s full name. Applicants may obtain their invoice when taking the language examination at 125 Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd., Block 26B, 2nd floor, or contact the Training Centre.
Applicants who have not yet received their diploma must submit a certificate from their higher education institution confirming completion of their studies, which must indicate the applicant’s overall grade and the grade received for the defence of the diploma thesis (or the state examination).
Applicants for PhD programmes will be notified in writing whether they have been admitted to the competition. The notification will indicate when and where they can obtain the syllabi for the entrance examinations.
