The Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Department of Bulgarian Language at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” are pleased to invite you to participate in the Thirteenth “Bulgarian Grammar” Forum on the topic “Current Research in Morphosyntax: Categories, Structures and Contrastive Perspectives”.
The forum will be held on 19 and 20 October 2026 in the “Acad. Aleksandar Teodorov-Balan” Hall of the Institute for Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 52 Shipchenski Prohod Blvd., Building 17.
The main issues to be discussed will focus on the following topics:
- The boundary between morphology and syntax and major morphosyntactic categories and structures (with a focus on Bulgarian);
- Contrastive and universal aspects of morphosyntax.
The topics of the presentations will cover theoretical, empirical and contrastive research in the field of morphosyntax, including, but not limited to: the boundary between morphology and syntax; morphosyntactic manifestations of categories such as tense, aspect and voice; morphosyntactic characteristics of structural organization: agreement, government and word order; the syntax–semantics interface; comparison of morphosyntactic structures in different languages; morphosyntactic universals and variation; processes of grammaticalization and degrammaticalization.
The aim is not (only) to provide definitive answers, but to exchange views, put forward hypotheses and, continuing the tradition established at previous meetings, create an environment for direct discussion.
All presentations delivered at the Forum will be published in the Supplement to “Bulgarian Language”.
