On 16 July 2026 at 10:00 a.m., the Academician Aleksandar Teodorov-Balan Hall of the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” will host a lecture by Dr Bozhana Nisheva of the Slavic Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The lecture is entitled “Word-Formation Competition and Dynamics in Contemporary Language Communication (Based on Bulgarian and Czech Neological Material)”. Dr Nisheva’s visit is organised within the framework of the National Research Programme “Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad”.
Bozhana Nisheva graduated in Slavic Philology (Czech Studies) from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She holds a PhD in Slavic Studies from Charles University, Prague. Since 2012 she has been a research fellow in the Department of Slavic Linguistics at the Slavic Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and between 2011 and 2023 she also served as Chief Assistant Professor in the Department of South Slavic and Balkan Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. Her research focuses on the lexicon and word formation of contemporary Bulgarian and Czech, Slavic neology and neography, and bilingual Slavic lexicography.
She is Chair of the Section of Lexicology and Lexicography of the Linguistic Association of the Czech Republic. She is also a member of the Commission on Slavic Word-Formation of the International Committee of Slavists and of the Czech Society for Slavic, Balkan and Byzantine Studies. She is the author of the scholarly monograph Inovační procesy v české a bulharské jazykové situaci (na materiálu jazyka médií) and numerous research publications issued in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and other European countries.
