The Campaign “The Written Word Remains. Write Correctly!” in Samokov

The Professional High School of Tourism in Samokov also joined the campaign “The Written Word Remains. Write Correctly!” of the Institute for Bulgarian Language, dedicated to 24th May – the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture, and Slavonic Literature.

On 17th May at the central square of Samokov many children, pupils and citizens had the opportunity to perform a short dictation and to check their knowledge of Bulgarian spellings and grammar. The older participants showed not only courage but also a willingness to see what, where and why they had made a mistake. The teachers from the Professional High School of Tourism – Borislava Hadzhiyska and Krasimir Dimitrov, were helped by the year 12 students Stefan Stoimenov, Desislava Nikova and Velislava Yordanova.

Students from the Hristo Maksimov School organised by Boryana Spasova and Dimitar Stoychev also took part in the campaign. The texts of the dictations and the additional materials have been prepared by the Institute for Bulgarian Language.

Many participants expressed their fascination with the texts provided – two excerpts from essays of modern Bulgarian authors devoted to the Bulgarian language. Others commended on the campaign dedicated to the upcoming celebrations of the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture. There were also those who did not conceal their concern about the growing illiteracy in the country.

Thanks go to Mrs Kostova and Mrs Ahchiyska from the Department of Education, Youth Activities and Sport at the Samokov Municipality for turning the campaign into an event for the whole town.
