Assoc. prof. Ana Kocheva from the IBL presented the language reality in front of the Bulgarian community in Rome

Assoc. prof. Ana Kocheva from the Institute for Bulgarian Language at BAS, author of the map “Bulgarian language at a new place in the world”, the book “The Mixed Language of the Viennese Bulgarians” and many others. etc., took part as a co-author in the second volume of the book “The Bulgarians Abroad – So Close, So Far”, issued by the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, initiated and compiled by the So Close, So Far Association. It was part of the presentation of the collection to the Bulgarian community in Rome, hosted by the Bulgarian Ambassador to Italy, Mr. Marin Raykov, and the Bulgarian Ambassador to the Vatican, Prof. Kiril Topalov. The Bulgarian Embassy in the Italian capital gathered representatives of the Bulgarian community in Italy. Together with the articles in the collection, the audience were shown the Map of the dialect of the Bulgarian language and the map “The Bulgarian language at a new place in the world”, editions of the IBE.

In an emotional discussion, the Bulgarians in Italy expressed a desire to pay special attention to the processes that are carried out in our language in a romance-language environment, in comparison to the German-language interference that Kocheva had already studied. They have also raised a number of issues related to the teaching of Bulgarian at the Sunday Schools, which has gained popularity in recent years.

Assoc. prof. Kocheva has shown desire to launch a new language project of the interdisciplinary research on the language of the Bulgarian community in Italy.

The collection was presented by its editor Snejana Yoveva-Dimitrova, a Deputy Chairman of the So Close, So Far Association, the Chairman of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad Petar Haralampiev, representatives of the Bulgarian community in Rome, the Bulgarian lecturer in Naples assoc. prof. Kirilov from IBL, authors of works in the collection and representatives of Bulgarian communities in Europe.
