The “The Written Word Remains. Write Correctly!” project holds two language quizzes at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”
On 9 January 2025, participants in the “The Written Word Remains. Write Correctly!” project organised two language quizzes at the invitation of the Faculty of Slavic Studies and the Faculty of History of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Students enrolled in the programmes Bulgarian Philology, History, and History and Geography answered questions in the fields of etymology, semantics, and linguistic transformations. Each quiz featured three teams of ten students. The Vazrozhdentsi (National Revival Figures) team won the competition among the history students, while the Sinigeri (Blue Tits) team emerged victorious among the philology students. Members of the audience also had the opportunity to answer entertaining questions on Bulgarian dialectology, Old Bulgarian, etymology, and computational linguistics.
Students from all programmes demonstrated not only excellent knowledge and linguistic intuition, but also strong analytical thinking skills. Short videos were screened to present the Institute’s areas of research, including contemporary Bulgarian, dialectology, the history of the Bulgarian language, onomastics, terminology, and computational linguistics. The work of the Department of Bulgarian Lexicology and Lexicography, the Department of Ethnolinguistics, and the Department of Bulgarian Etymology was presented by the hosts Kalina Micheva-Peycheva and Svetlozara Leseva.
